Credit Report Problems
So, last month I decided to be responsible check both Nicole and my credit scores. We had some payment mix-ups with one or our loans and I wanted to make sure it didn’t hurt our scores and I just want to make sure there wasn’t anything “funny” on there. Well I went to creditreport.com and was able to get our reports and scores with no problem. There wasn’t anything that looked too bad on there and so I saved the PDFs and forgot about it… Until on Monday I noticed 2 charges on my credit card as follows:

I did a quick search on “CREDITRPT SERVICES” and the top 3 results were:

I read a few stories of people who had done the same thing but hadn’t noticed the charges for months and they couldn’t get any of their money back. So, I got into my “insistent customer mindset” and called the number. I talked to someone who’s name I couldn’t pronounce and he explained to me that I was enrolled into a credit monitoring trial when I got my report and that the trial has ended. I canceled the service and then asked him about a refund for the charge. He told me that they had a no-refund policy. I then asked for his supervisor. After what sounded like he dropped and then handed the phone to his brother, another person told me that they did not do refunds. So, I explained that this would have been the first day of the service and since it was 9 AM they hadn’t really provided any service yet. So, since this service was cancelled I wanted my money back. He again refused, so I asked for his supervisor.
This time I was put on hold and transfered to Laura. I explained the whole situation to her and she told me that 2 emails had been sent. I then explained to her that the dates of those emailed were both during the trial period. After a period of silence she agreed to give me a refund. I then told her that I had gotten a report for my wife too and that I had been charged for her too. She said that my wife would have to call in and that she couldn’t talk to me about her account. I thought so far, so good.
When I got home I found that Nicole had practice until about 10 at night. I figured that if I waited there was no way I was going to get my money back. So, “Nicolie /insert Russian accent” Farley called about his account and was able to also cancel his service and eventually get a refund. I thought that I would write this post both to entertain you and to advise to you read the fine print when your signing up for anything. Especially something “FREE”.
